2016 AB Research and Innovation Advisory Council Meeting
On November 2, 2016, Smart City Alliance Board representatives met with the Alberta Research and Innovation Advisory Council (ARIAC). The Alliance presented on its goals and activities, and the opportunities that the Alliance and the province of Alberta have to collaborate and continue to move Smart Cities forward.
ARIAC received the presentation very well, and discussed how the Alliance could be an asset to Alberta's economic growth and diversification priorities. Board questions also focused on how St. Albert’s Smart City strategy could be leveraged for others, how funding could advance sectors and markets, the need for a provincial Smart City direction / investment, the potential benefit of a LPWAN across Alberta, potential for revisions to trade legislation, and data privacy / protection.
At the conclusion, the Board Chair thanked all for their participation, and noted that ARIAC would consider its recommendations and next steps in the coming weeks.
